US President Donald Trump has said he does not support calls for Iran to be stripped of all its ballistic missiles, according to report by THE TIMES OF ISRAEL on Wednesday June 17 2026.
Speaking at a press conference, Trump said the United States and Iran would discuss Iran’s missile programme during upcoming negotiations following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
Trump said Iran should be allowed to possess some missiles since other countries in the region, including Saudi Arabia, also have them. He argued that preventing Iran from having any missiles while allowing others to do so would be unfair.
Trump also downplayed the threat posed by ballistic missiles, saying they are not the main issue and do not have the capacity to cause global destruction.
He said,
“They have to have some missiles because other people have some. You gotta have some. And missiles aren’t the problem… They hurt a little location, but they don’t blow up the planet.”
