The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to reports suggesting that he is planning to contest in the 2027 general elections.
His reaction was contained in a press statement issued by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, and shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The clarification followed media reports, including one by Premium Times, which also referenced a Federal High Court ruling in Kaduna that reportedly granted bail to El-Rufai in connection with ongoing corruption-related allegations after a period of detention.
In the statement, Adekeye emphasized that the former governor had not authorized anyone to speak on his behalf regarding political ambitions or future electoral plans. He stressed that any official communication concerning El-Rufai’s political intentions would only come directly from him or through his officially designated spokesperson.
He further distanced El-Rufai from remarks allegedly made by individuals described in the media as political associates, noting that such comments do not reflect the former governor’s position or authorization.
According to the statement shared on X: “Malam Nasir El-Rufai wishes to dissociate himself from comments regarding political aspirations which have been attributed to someone described by the media as a political associate.”
The clarification appears aimed at curbing speculation about El-Rufai’s 2027 political ambitions while reinforcing control over how information about his future plans is communicated to the public.
