Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed how his administration supported a military personnel injured in the line of service by flying the wounded soldier abroad for medical treatment and covering his children’s school fees.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Amaechi said, “We compensated every family we lost at the warfront in Rivers State. We took over the care of the family. In fact, there was a soldier who was shot while flying a helicopter, we flew him out of the country for treatment and we paid his children’s school fees. That is what we need to do. We need to encourage and support the Nigerian military. They have the capacity to get this done.”
Amaechi called on the federal government to invest heavily in military intelligence and training, arguing that knowing the enemy’s movements, weapons, and routines is the foundation of any successful operation.
He stressed that beyond intelligence, soldiers must be properly trained, adequately equipped, and sufficiently funded to perform at their best.
