According to a report by Leadership, on Wednesday April 15, 2026, the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has rejected claims that the party is discussing an alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as alleged by allies of Taminu Turaki.
They described the claim as misleading and unfounded, saying it was aimed at creating confusion within the party and among the Nigerian public, PDP leaders insisted that no such coalition talks exist at any level of the party structure.
At a National Working Committee meeting in Abuja, the party chairman restated that the PDP remains independent and has not entered any merger discussions with ADC or any other political party, he said the party is focused on rebuilding and preparing for future elections.
He added that the PDP is focused on regaining national power in the 2027 general elections through stronger unity and grassroots mobilisation, the leadership said internal disputes had been resolved, according to the party, recent challenges have strengthened its internal democratic structure.
He accused supporters of Taminu Turaki of spreading false information about coalition plans, saying such claims were deliberate attempts to misrepresent the party’s position, the party warned against actions capable of damaging its reputation.
The party leadership said it would not hesitate to take legal action against any conduct considered defamatory or harmful to its image, they stressed respect for due process and the rule of law.
The PDP stated that it has overcome internal disagreements and emerged more united, describing the process as a test of its resilience and democratic strength, it said the outcome has improved coordination within the party.
