Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and ADC chieftain, Babachir Lawal, has declared that the African Democratic Congress will participate in the 2027 general elections regardless of the position taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Lawal dismissed INEC’s refusal to recognise the David Mark-led National Working Committee of the ADC, insisting that the commission does not have the final authority to determine the party’s political future.
“We don’t listen to INEC. They are not the Appeal Court, they are not the Supreme Court, not even the High Court. So, INEC can say whatever they want to say. We are going to be on the ballot whatever INEC says; we are going to participate in this election,” he said.
Lawal maintained that the ADC’s recent national convention remains valid despite INEC’s absence, saying the party acted on the advice of its legal team before proceeding with congresses and the convention.
He described the convention as successful, despite what he alleged were attempts by the government to frustrate the party’s activities.
The ADC chieftain also accused the APC-led Federal Government of trying to impose a one-party system, claiming the ruling party fears losing if elections are conducted freely and fairly.
According to him, the ADC is confident of contesting in 2027 and believes it has the leadership and policy depth needed to solve Nigeria’s problems.
Lawal added that while the party has solutions for national challenges, its immediate priority is to stop the current administration from remaining in power.
