2027: Vote APC Out or it Will be a Disaster – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress, warning that the country risks a bleak future if the party remains in power. Speaking during an interview, Atiku said citizens must take decisive action, declaring, “They should vote out APC if they want their future… it’s going to be a disaster.” He expressed doubt about the party’s ability to deliver progress, insisting he sees no clear path to national improvement under its leadership.

Atiku also downplayed concerns about the APC’s financial strength, arguing that public support is more important than money in elections. He alleged that the ruling party relies on public funds but maintained that voters can still make independent choices. Reflecting on his personal wealth, he said his business success predates politics, noting that he built his enterprises in sectors like oil and gas and agriculture before entering public service.

Ex-Oyo Gov Candidate Joins APC

All Progressives Congress has received a new member in Olalekan Ayorinde, the 2019 governorship candidate of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party in Oyo State. He was formally welcomed at the party’s secretariat in Ibadan by state chairman Moses Alake alongside other local party leaders, marking the completion of his defection process after earlier aligning at ward and local government levels.

Ayorinde said his move was driven by a desire to contribute to development rather than personal ambition, stating, “My decision to join the APC is not driven by personal ambition or the desire to contest for any political office, but rather by my commitment to support the progress of the party.” Party officials described his entry as a boost ahead of the 2027 elections, citing his experience, grassroots appeal, and political relevance in the state.

US lawmaker urges Tinubu to redeploy Matawalle, cites security concerns

A United States lawmaker, Kimberly Daniels, has urged President Bola Tinubu to redeploy or remove the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, citing concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation. In a statement, Daniels referenced a recent security assessment highlighting renewed attacks in parts of the country, particularly during the Easter period, and raised questions about the effectiveness of current defence leadership. She stated that “immediate leadership review” was necessary to restore confidence in the system.

Daniels also called for a transparent investigation into alleged links between some officials and bandit groups, alongside stronger protection for vulnerable communities. She urged international partners, including the United States, to apply diplomatic pressure to ensure accountability, warning that internal complicity could worsen insecurity.

N210tn audit queries: Senate gives NNPCL April 29 deadline

The Nigerian Senate has given the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited until April 29 to account for N210 trillion flagged in audit reports covering 2017 to 2023. The directive, issued by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, requires the Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, alongside former GCEO Mele Kyari and other key officials, to appear and provide detailed explanations. Committee Chairman Aliyu Wadada said the explanations so far were inadequate, stressing that “Nigerians deserved clear, detailed and convincing responses.”

The Senate expressed concern over discrepancies in the figures, including N103 trillion listed as liabilities and N107 trillion attributed to joint venture cash calls and unidentified debts. Lawmakers insisted that each component must be clearly broken down and justified, warning that continued failure to honour invitations could trigger legislative enforcement measures.
