Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo state has adopted the lawmaker representing the Constituency, Nicholas Asonsere, as its consensus candidate.
The adoption was disclosed Friday at his second term campaign flag-off held at the party secretariat on Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City, where party leaders and stakeholders rallied behind his candidacy in a show of unity.
A frontline aspirant, Tony Oluwatosin, who led four others to stepped down for Asonsere, said the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders, including Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“We agreed on a consensus to strengthen the party and improve our chances in 2027. Hon. Asonsere’s performance and connection with the grassroots made him the natural choice,” he said.
He added that the move was aimed at sustaining ongoing development efforts in the constituency.
Party leaders, including the APC chairman in Ikpoba-Okha local government area, Sunny Ogbewe, described the process as “peaceful” and a demonstration of political maturity, while the party’s immediate past Legal Adviser, Barrister Okoror, commended the unity among aspirants.
In his acceptance speech, Asonsere thanked party stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the endorsement.
“I will not take this trust for granted. I remain committed to inclusive representation and attracting more development to our constituency,” he said.
