According to a report by The Pride of London on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Chelsea’s impending appointment of Xabi Alonso signals the beginning of a ruthless rebuild at Stamford Bridge, with sweeping changes expected once the Spaniard officially takes charge on July 1.
After a humiliating season that ended with the Blues missing out on Europe while nine Premier League rivals secured continental qualification, Alonso inherits a squad badly in need of transformation.

The prospect of Chelsea lining up with Cole Palmer, Rafael Leao and Joao Pedro in attack next season is enough to excite supporters already.
And Alonso may now be tempted to use his Real Madrid connections and influence to make the move happen.
Leao’s reputation is only continuing to grow internationally, and comments previously made by Luka Modric underline just how highly the Portuguese star is rated inside elite football circles.
“Rafa is really amazing,” Modric said. “I was looking forward to playing with him, unfortunately he got injured quickly, but now he’s getting back to fitness. This is the Rafa that we need.
“He’s an amazing talent, from outside when I used to watch him and now when I train with him, I see he is one of the best players in the world. The incredible thing is that he can still improve, it just depends on him.
