According to a report by Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has raised concerns over the exposure of his personal details in the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He said the incident made him feel unsafe for the first time in his life.
Ike, who is also seeking a seat in the House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), described the situation as a serious breach that raises important questions about data protection, privacy rights, and the safety of citizens’ information in Nigeria.
He made the remarks during an appearance on News Central Television, a clip of which later circulated on X on Thursday. In the interview, he spoke about the emotional impact of the incident, explaining that the release of his personal information had significantly affected his sense of security.
According to him, the issue goes beyond personal discomfort and reflects broader concerns about how sensitive data belonging to Nigerians is stored, managed, and safeguarded by public institutions.
The controversy began after details linked to his voter registration information were made public, triggering widespread debate about electoral data privacy and the protection of personal records in the country. The incident also raised questions about whether proper procedures were followed in accessing and disseminating such information.
Ike further revealed that he has taken legal steps against Lere Olayinka, a media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He said the decision to go to court was necessary due to the seriousness of the matter and its implications for public trust in institutions responsible for handling citizens’ private data.
He stressed that accountability is essential in situations involving the management of confidential information.
Describing his reaction to the incident, he added that the development felt like an abuse of power and a disturbing indication of disregard for citizens’ privacy, expressing deep concern over how such information could be exposed.
