Manchester United are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson set to complete a move to Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £38 million as reported by Metro on Thursday May 28, 2026
The Brazilian is expected to cost United an initial £35 million, with a further £3 million in performance-related add-ons.
His arrival would make him the third player to swap Atalanta for Manchester United in recent seasons, following in the footsteps of Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo.
The move comes as United look to strengthen a midfield that has been significantly weakened by Casemiro’s departure and ongoing uncertainty surrounding Manuel Ugarte’s future at the club.
Reports suggest at least one additional midfielder remains on United’s radar, with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba all mentioned as potential targets.
Meanwhile, club legend Patrice Evra has made his feelings clear on who he believes would be the most transformational addition to the squad this summer.
The former United defender has pointed to Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as his top target, arguing that the Nigerian forward possesses the quality, experience and personality the club desperately needs.
“I think he would be a transformational signing for Manchester United,” Evra told GOAL, adding that Osimhen’s ability to deliver under enormous pressure, most notably firing Napoli to their first league title in over three decades, proves he is built for high-stakes environments.
Osimhen has been in spectacular form since joining Galatasaray, netting 22 goals last season to help the Turkish club claim the league title.
United do have striking options, with Benjamin Sesko finishing the previous campaign with 11 Premier League goals after a slow start under former head coach Ruben Amorim.
