According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, May 28, 2026, former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and announced plans to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, Omo-Agege explained that his decision came after extensive consultations with political allies, supporters, and stakeholders within and outside Delta State.
He said he believes the NDC offers the right platform to promote the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria as a whole.
According to the former senator, many residents of Delta are demanding a style of leadership rooted in integrity, accountability, and practical results that directly improve people’s daily lives.
He also thanked prominent political figures, including Senator Seriake Dickson, Senator Moses Cleopas, Peter Obi, and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for their roles during his transition to the party.
Omo-Agege described the NDC as a party built on inclusion, grassroots participation, transparency, and true federalism, stressing that decisions are made through consultations rather than secret arrangements.
The former governorship candidate stated that his return to the Senate is driven by calls from the people of Delta Central who want effective representation.
He criticised the condition of infrastructure and social services in Delta State despite the state’s huge oil and gas revenues. He lamented poor roads, weak healthcare systems, inadequate schools, rising unemployment, and economic hardship affecting many communities.
He argued that the NDC was created to provide a credible alternative to what he called years of poor governance and failed leadership.
Omo-Agege also vowed to strengthen the party’s structure across Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections by mobilising support from the grassroots.
On his legislative plans, he promised to attract federal projects, promote accountability, support agriculture and small businesses, and improve healthcare and education.
He also called for unity among Delta’s senatorial districts and encouraged youths and women to actively participate in politics ahead of 2027.
