Speaking in an interview on Arise News on Sunday, May 17, 2026, Nduka-Eze stated that Col. Ibrahim Taiwo was part of the Nigerian Army division allegedly involved in the military operations in Asaba during the war.

He further recounted a personal account he said he received from Taiwo’s son, who allegedly described the emotional distress his father experienced after the end of the civil war.

According to him, the son explained that Taiwo lived with deep psychological trauma following his wartime experiences, often expressing sadness and thoughts of death.

Nduka-Eze said the son told him that his father once expressed remorse over his actions during the war, suggesting that he felt he did not deserve to live because of what he and other soldiers did in Asaba.

In his words, Nduka-Eze recounted: “He shared a very important insight with me, he said post the war his father was consistently and repeatedly morbid, mournful always talking about dying… And he said, ‘I don’t deserve to live because of what we did in Asaba’. The son told me this, he is alive.”

The remarks have revived conversations surrounding the Asaba Massacre, a highly sensitive and tragic episode of the Nigerian Civil War that has continued to generate historical debate, remembrance, and calls for accountability.

The comments have also sparked renewed public interest in personal testimonies connected to military figures involved in the conflict, with many observers noting the emotional and historical weight of such accounts.

Historians and commentators continue to emphasize the importance of documenting civil war experiences carefully, as narratives from both survivors and military participants remain central to understanding the full scope of the conflict and its long-term impact on affected communities.
